We were always going to like Cuba St. With three record shops, quirky little clothes stores and a friendly cafe called Fidels, what's not to like? But last weekend's carnival was something else - a full on explosion of colourful costumes and very loud music.
We saw Brazilian samba bands and DJs, and even the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra - who are apparently entirely different and eminently superior to the Auckland International Ukulele Orchestra. Or so they say around here. Anyway, we like Cuba St so much, we've moved there - well almost. We're sharing a flat just off the southern end while the search for short-term employment goes on...
In fact Gwenfair has already beaten me on that front, pretty much walking into a job as a barista (the ones that make coffee, not the ones that defend criminals...). I've just been to have my 'skills' tested by a temping agency - however, in-depth knowledge of the Welsh NHS' woes is apparently not in high demand. Neither is making little videos of your travel adventures - but still, here's another one...
